The
National Museum, the oldest museum institute in the
Czech
Lands, was founded as the “Patriotic Museum” in
1818 by a ceremonial proclamation of the provincial nobility
of 15th April. To begin with, the collections were kept in the
Minorite Monastery of St. James in the Old Town and in
private dwellings.
