After arriving
at the capital´s modern airport, in next to no time visitors can find
themselves savouring the peace and quiet of the tagus estuary, whilst enjoying
a "bica" (espresso coffee) or an "imperial" (glass of
draught beer) on the terrace of a café overlooking the river. They
may also decide to go shopping, wich can be a very rewarding experience. It
is not unusual to find traditional crafts competing with the best international
labels and to see the inspiration of young Portuguese designers displayed
alongside the creations of some of the biggest names in fashion, art and design
from all over the world.
This is the city that recently hosted the mega-event known as Expo´98.
Its Conferences, Exhibitions and Events centres are unanimously considered
to be top-class infrastructures capable of staging any event.
The city´s accommodation supply, in terms of 4 and 5 star hotels, far
exceeds all expectations. The wide range of different restaurants, serving
both traditional fare and international cuisine, can only be classed as excellent,
with the highlight being the fantastic fresh fish and seafood dishes that
they offer.
In Lisbon, the night has a thousand stars. Night-lovers can discover the traditional
fado music with its universal language; take in a great concert with some
of the world´s top names in classical or rock music, opera or ballet;
thrill to the emotions of an oldfashioned Portuguese bullfight; or just simply
savour the nightlife of the many bars and outdoor cafés that spread
along the banks of the river or suddenly appear at each street corner of old
Lisbon´s seven hills.
