Tenerife makes
up part of the Canary Islands along with its neighbours of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote,
Fuerteventura and Gomera. It is the largest of the archipelago and has the
very distinctive shape of a triangle. The island is situated only 200 miles
off the West Coast of Africa thus making it closer to Africa than Spain, and
giving the islands consistent exotic temperatures all year round.
The volcanic island of Tenerife is known as the Island of eternal spring,
due to its good climate all year round. It contains some of the most amazing
landscapes that you will be in complete awe of. The experience begins as you
fly into the island and are welcomed by the world’s third highest mountain,
the volcanic Mount Teide, which is located in Mount Teide National Park in
the centre of the island.
The volcano itself splits the country in two and creates the contrasting landscape
that Tenerife is renowned for. The North contains the lush, tropical green
surroundings of banana plantations and palm trees and the South has a more
desert like terrain. It is in the south that the busier, more lively resorts
can be found such as Playa de las Americas.
