Switzerland,
bordered by France to the west, Germany to the north, Austria to the east and
Italy to the south, has the highest mountains in Europe, withwaterfalls and
lakes set amid green pastures. The highest peaks are Dufour Peak on the Italian
border at 4634m (15,217ft); the Dom at 4545m (14,912ft); the Matterhorn at 4478m
(14,692ft); and the Jungfrau at 4166m (13,669ft).
In many ways, Switzerland is like its famed watches-small, compact, reliable
and aesthetic. And its capital city is no exception. Its indisputably fine setting,
gracious old buildings and a quiet allure make Bern a worthy seat for Switzerland's
federal government.
