Palermo,
synonym of one of the most prestigious cities of the Mediterranean nonchè
capoluogo of the Sicily, rises in one beautifulst insenatura on the northern
coast. The history of Palermo laughed them to the Viii-vi centuries a.C., the
age of the Fenici di Cartagine and taken in name of Ziz (flower). Through the
numerous civil fights burst in the course of the centuries, Palermo came definitively
annexed, with to all the Sicily, to the crown of Aragon. During II the world-wide
conflict Palermo it was besieged hardly from the strafings and in the years
succeeded an independent one was rendered completely common. One of the traditions
more felt in the city of Palermo is "the ancient myth of the blazes",
with to which it comes announced also the festivity of S.Giuseppe all the inhabitants
are engaged to accumulate old mobilio, tables, objects and material of every
kind in order then to burn them in only, great fire, around to which the boys
will run and jump, singing praises to S.Giuseppe. This custom provokes magic,
why closely it is tied to the cult of the sun, of which Palermo historical origin
has one: with the fire it is intention to drive away the harmful infuences,
greeting the arrival of the spring (why the day coincides with the spring equinox)
and auguring to the city one new positive season. The more evocative monuments
that enrich the landscape are the majestic Cathedral; the Treasure of the Cathedral,
to the inside of which numerous nineteenth-century works of art are conserved;
the Nail head Tippet, characterized from the gold and mosaics that compose it
the Catacombe of the Cappuccini and the Regional Archaeological Museum.
