The Costa de
Almeria has plenty of fine sandy beaches with clear water – and you
can still find some deserted beaches along the coast. It’s also well
worth exploring the dramatic scenery inland out and about. There are Blue
Flag beaches at Roquetas de Mar, Berja, Vera and El Elgido. Almería
is the regional capital, and has an outstanding Moorish citadel (Alcazabar).
Its cathedral is also well worth a visit. Almería has lots of tapas
bars, pubs and nightclubs – and if you’re visiting during the
last two weeks in August, make sure you catch the Almería Fair. It’s
a lively mixture of music and dancing, religion and sport.
